Baduk Clock
Game Timer for Go/Baduk/Weiqi/Chess
Version 0.7.0
What is Baduk Clock?
Baduk Clock is a free, game timer designed specifically for the ancient board game of Go (also known as Baduk in Korean or Weiqi in Chinese), but it also works for other games that uses similar timing systems. It supports all major timing systems used in professional tournaments and casual play worldwide.
As a Progressive Web App (PWA), Baduk Clock works offline and can be installed on your phone, tablet, or computer for quick access during games.
Time Control Systems
Byo-yomi (Japanese)
The most popular timing system in Go. Players have a main time period, followed by multiple overtime periods. Each overtime period resets after making a move. If you run out of time during an overtime period, you lose one period. The game ends when all periods are exhausted.
Example: 10 minutes main time + 5 periods of 30 seconds each.
Fischer (Increment)
Named after chess champion Bobby Fischer. Players start with an initial time bank, and a fixed amount of time is added after each move. Unused increment time accumulates, rewarding quick play with a larger time reserve.
Example: 5 minutes + 10 seconds per move.
Canadian Byo-yomi
Players have main time, then must complete a set number of moves within each overtime period. The overtime period resets after completing the required number of stones. This system balances between time pressure and allowing deep reading.
Example: 15 minutes main time + 5 minutes for every 15 stones.
Absolute
The simplest system. Each player has a fixed amount of total time for the entire game. When your time runs out, you lose. Often called "sudden death" timing.
Example: 30 minutes total per player.
Simple (Per Move)
Each player has a fixed amount of time to make each move. The timer resets after every move. Great for fast-paced games and beginners learning to play quickly.
Example: 30 seconds per move.
